gSlapper

Play a video or image wallpaper and check the available output names.

gSlapper plays video and static image wallpapers with GStreamer. SYSC v0.1.3 installs gSlapper v1.5.1 through the distribution-specific package routes in the compatibility guide.

Wallpaper outputs

This command lists the output names and exits without starting a wallpaper:

gslapper --help-output

For a manual video start, choose the output from that list and replace OUTPUT:

gslapper -o "loop fill" OUTPUT /path/to/video.mp4

For a still image:

gslapper -o fill OUTPUT /path/to/image.jpg

These commands start wallpaper processes. The -o option passes playback and scaling options to GStreamer. Available scaling values include fill, stretch, original and panscan. Animated GIF playback needs gst-libav; without it gSlapper displays the first frame.

To use the same video across every output, quote the wildcard so the shell does not expand it:

gslapper -o loop '*' /path/to/video.mp4

The output name comes from gslapper --help-output. A missing file, output name or GStreamer decoder can prevent playback; confirm each before changing the shell's wallpaper setting. gSlapper uses one GStreamer pipeline for its outputs and supports still images as well as video.

Let the shell manage it

The current sysc-shell source starts one gSlapper process per output and owns the control socket. Choose the wallpaper through the shell when it manages that output. Do not start a second manual process on the same output.

Wallpaper ownership guide explains how gSlapper differs from sysc-terminal and sysc-walls. The suite pin and current shell source can differ; check the source record before expecting a newer shell integration.

For a standalone package, use the route for that operating system in the compatibility reference. The suite's gSlapper step runs only when the package is missing. If it skips installation, read that task result; SYSC can finish installing the rest of the suite without gSlapper.
