Installer failures
Tell a failed SYSC download from a partial install and recover safely.
Installer recovery
Run SYSC as the user who owns the suite. Do not prefix the installer or systemctl --user with sudo. The optional gSlapper package step can request administrator authentication.
Download/swap errors
SYSC downloads and checks every enabled component before it replaces any installed binary. A download or checksum error leaves the current component binaries in place. Fix the network or storage problem, then retry the same release.
During an upgrade, SYSC stops active suite units before swapping binaries. If a swap fails, it rolls back binaries changed by that attempt and tries to restart the units that were active before it began.
Failure after the swap
After a successful swap, SYSC writes installed.json before it enables units, seeds configuration or edits Niri's config. A later error can leave a partial install. The record contains the release, component versions, session start status and any provider handovers.
Read the error and task results. The optional gSlapper package can be skipped while the rest of the suite installs. For a failed user service, use the read-only service checks. After fixing the cause, rerun the same installer release to apply its pin again, or use uninstall to remove the recorded suite.
The guided wizard writes its task results to ~/.local/state/sysc/installer.log. An absolute XDG_STATE_HOME moves that file to $XDG_STATE_HOME/sysc/installer.log. The install record sits beside it.
Recover uninstall files
Before uninstalling, copy installed.json somewhere safe. By default it is ~/.local/state/sysc/installed.json; an absolute XDG_STATE_HOME moves it to $XDG_STATE_HOME/sysc/installed.json. The record contains the Niri lines and user units that SYSC took over.
Uninstall reports failures while restoring a handed-over provider or removing gSlapper. After Niri cleanup succeeds, it removes the install record even if one of those tasks failed. Keep the copy and use the failed task name and saved handover details to finish recovery. If Niri cleanup itself fails, uninstall returns before removing the record.
Run uninstall with the same XDG_CONFIG_HOME, XDG_STATE_HOME and XDG_DATA_HOME values used for installation. SYSC uses the current environment to find the Niri config, user units, install record and D-Bus activation file. See installer paths and uninstall.
